UB Highlights: Launching of College Intramurals 2024-2025

The University of Baguio College Intramurals 2024 kicks off with a bang this year as the students once again filed into the Cardinal’s Gym for the highly-anticipated opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony featured a vibrant parade of athletes, each representing their respective schools with pride. Each team was led by their stunning muses and creative mascots, dressed in their official colors and confidently bearing banners embellished with their school’s name to showcase their school spirit.

Several esteemed alumni were also present to give their support for the event, including Muay Thai World Champion Ms. Islay Erika Bomogao, Renowned Filipino Racer Iñigo Navarrete Anton, and two-time Olympian Ms. Nesthy Petecio. Their presence served as an inspiration for the heights that UBians can achieve with hard work and dedication, bolstering the spirit of camaraderie that the event aims to nurture.

The opening ceremonies also involved a lively cheering competition, where each team led by their captains brought their best routines to the floor. The gym was filled with spirited cheers of the university’s different schools, showcasing the training of each group and culminating in a grand display of skill and discipline.

The Overall Best Cheering Team was the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (SIHTM), with the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) coming in as the1st Runner Up and the School of Natural Sciences (SNS) being named the 2nd Runner Up. 

The Best Cheering Booth award went to the School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA), with 1st Runner Up going to SNS and 2nd Runner Up going to SIHTM. The Champion for Best Mascot was also awarded to SNS, with SEA coming in 1st Runner Up and SIHTM coming in 2nd Runner Up.

For the secondary awards, SNS came away with the Best Muse, Best Team Captain, and Best in Costume awards. SIHTM also garnered the title for the best Cheer Leader.

Also presented during the awarding ceremony was the title of Overall Champion for the 2023-2024 Intramurals, which went to the School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA). This momentous honor was the result of their hard-earned victories in the different sports matches held by the university throughout the course of the last schoolyear.

College intramurals are more than just a series of sports competitions; they represent a celebration of teamwork and healthy competition. It provides students with an opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities and contribute to building a vibrant community that facilitates the university’s mission to provide balanced quality education in a fun learning environment. 

The University of Baguio is dedicated to ensuring that students are having fun while they are pursuing their education. Activities and events like the annual Intramurals are integral for ensuring that the students live a balanced school life, ensuring that they have ways to enjoy themselves outside of the classroom.
